Omerga

Omerga is a talukas in the Osmanabad district. Its name itself indicates as Uma Marg, after the goddess Tulja Bhavani, who is also called Uma. Hence, at many places Omerga is also written as Umarga. Omerga is represented in Hyderabad mukti sangram.

Omerga has a 1000 year old ancient Hemadpanthi Temple of Lord Shiva. This indicates its roots linked to the Shilahar, Rastrkuta, Chalukya Dynasty. Birudev Temple is also ancient place to visit. Birudev is worshipped as the god of the Dhangar community. Omerga is surrounded by holy places such as Amrutkund - there are also temples for Shiv and Ganesha in Shivaji Chowk, among others. Chalukya Bhaskarrao is one of the prominent political leaders after independence. He was elected as M.L.A for three consecutive terms. Currently, Shri Dnyanraj Dhondiram Chougule is the M.L.A.

Shri Premnath Maharaj temple is famous temple and religious place in Omerga Taluka and is situated in a village named Madaj or Mathamal. The god Premnath Maharaj belongs to one of the sishya of Nounath Sampraday .

The sangram was led by Swami Ramanad Tirth. Devisingh Chavan, Tatyarao More, Digambarroa Potdar, Mugalikar, Rajeshwarkar, Anna Rao Patil, Madhavanand Shastri (Guruji) are a few of the people who participated in the freedom movement and jailed several times times. Bharat Vidyalay is founded in pre-independence era and spread the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in those days of NIZAM Rule. As of 2001 India census, omerga had a population of 30,183. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Umarga has an average literacy rate of 67%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 58%.

Chinchole,More,Malge,Mane family are the main business house in the town. Rajshekhar Chinchole was the founder of Vyapari Mahasangh. the present president of Omerga Vyapari Mahasangh is Sidramapaa Chinchole since last 8 years. Ajit Jatte, Suresh Chinchole,Datta Angire, Sachin, Umesh and Vijay chinchole are the eminent social worker in the taluka during 1993 Earthquake.

Other prominent leader in Omerga has been Prof. Ravindra V. Gaikwad who holds an undisputed popularity in the taluka bacause of his work in the up bringing of the people. He till date has done major work in creating lakes in the taluka in his tenure. he was elected as the M.l.a of the place two times.It is because of his popularity that Dnyanraj Chaugule got elected in 2009 convincingly. Other prominent event that takes place in the Taluka is Shivnery Trophy every year, which is a treat for all the cricket lovers in the area. Omerga is situated on National Highway no-9(Pune to Hyderabad). The main business is agriculture. The area is Famous for Pulses,Sunflower,Sugarcane,Grapes and Jowar. There is One Sugarfactory namely vitthalSai Co-opp sugar Factory and another two factories under construction. Huge MIDC is developed under zone D on the area of 200 hectares. Around 40 units mainly agro Based are operational and another 60-70 units are under construction.

The major youth of this area is in the Engineering field, there are some extraordinary examples who are working for IT industry very prominently.

It is the area from where very big personalities passed out from the education institutes and they are working in very prominently in their specific domain.Omerga is also famous for the education for 12th standard.Omerga is famous for the Hospitals, minimum 100 hospitals are their in this town which is triple than the number of hospitals in the district Osmanabad. The city is very near to boundary of Karnataka so the peoples from this area have a cocktail accent in their language.
