Devgarh, also known as Devgad or Deogarh, is a coastal city in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra state in western India.Ramdev Yadav was the king of Devgad. Devgarh is located on the Arabian Sea in the coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra, south of Mumbai. It is noted for its harbor, its beach, and a lighthouse built in 1915 at the Deogad fort. Fort Vijaydurga alias GHERIA ruled by Shilaharaj King Raja Bhoj who constructed the fort later on ruled by Adilsha & finally by King Shivaji & lastly Angres. Peshwas is the Indian national monument is situated at the distance of 45minutes by road from main city of Deogad. Fort Vijaydurga was seen by British, Dutch, Portuguese armies & travellers 400 years back & till today by the foreign tourists. The nearest Konkan railway station is Kankavli on Mumbai-Goa road. From Kankavli, one can get autorickshaw, state buses transport to reach Deogad-Vijaydurga. There is wall under sea at shores of the Vijadurga built such that enemies ships trying to attack would crash and sink.
It is also famous in India for supply of Pure Alphonso Mango Cultivation/Farming and the Whole Developments have been evolved due to undertaking of the cultivation of Alphonso Mango Farming. Majority of farmers have started converting from the regular rice cultivation to Mango Cultivation activities in Western Konkan Region of Maharashtra alongside the Arabian Sea Western Coast. Due to callous approach of Indian government most of the famous ports have been kept undeveloped hence major source of transportation through Sea is left untapped yet and the same needs to be developed to a larger extent.
Fishing is carried out on large scale in the sea as well as in the creeks throughout the Deogad taluka region. The staple food of this region is rice & fish. The historical temple of Lord Shiva namely Kunkeshwar lies on sea boundaries which was built by Arab Muslim traveller, the first Windmill projects in Maharashtra are installed at Vijaydurga, Deogad. There is a temple dedicated to the goddess, Devi Bhagwati at the village of Munge. A small village knows as Jamsande is sitated near to devgad. It is approximately 4 km from the devgad bus stand.
